Piedmont, Italy, BARBERA
Originally released in April 2006 as a Limited Release, now returns as a permanent addition to the Showcase Collection. We have been excited about this wine since we tasted the first 2006 prototype and continue to be thrilled as we discover the ongoing growth and development whenever we pull a cork of the few remaining bottles from 2006.
Below is the original 2006 Limited Release description
April Release
Barbera has been the most popular grape in the Piedmont region in Northwest Italy for centuries. In recent years, as growers and winemakers have been adopting more modern techniques, Barbera has undergone a remarkable transformation. With new vineyard care, especially around Alba and Asti, it has emerged as a very chic wine which readily stands comparison to noble Nebbiolo but does not require the extended ageing that Nebbiolo demands. Dark and fruity in its youth, it can age to impressive depth and elegance. The wines of Angelo Gaja and the Bologna Family perhaps best reflect what today’s Barbera can achieve. Their Barberas retail for up to, and over $100 per bottle in B.C.
The Cellar Craft difference this year is the inclusion of our Crushed Grape Pack of virgin Barbera grapes from California. Definitely a wine to discover.
All kits come with appopriate labels.
