Gooder Than Guinness Stout All Grain Recipe

This very simple, low gravity Dry Stout is an all-time favorite of mine. With a low ABV you'll find it hard to have just one. I highly recommend using an Irish ale yeast with this one but you can find great results using the S-04 dry yeast as well. This beer is great served as is. Put it on a nitro system, and it rocks!

Not so gooder

I got this kit as a gift and was excited to get this going. We did 40+ all grain Batches last year and are on pace to beat that this year. I am sitting here with one now about eight weeks post brew and itís more of a brown ale than a Guinness clone. Roasty for sure but nowhere near Guinness. Would love to put a photo with this to show the amber brown ale I have here. I have about another 3 1/2 gallons left if someone wants to come over and check it out personally.

Excellent stout

I brewed in early February via Anvil Foundry all in one. I got an original gravity of 1.050, instructions say 1.059 is the target, but Q&A says 1.049. I did have ~ 6 gallons at the end of the boil, so a little less boil off than I expected. Cooling took a bit longer so the pitch was later than expected and I used a dry English ale yeast to ferment. I got a clean fermentation to target FG of 1.016 within 8 days. I did swap to a secondary fermenter for about 5 more days but Iím not sure that accomplished anything significant. Kegged and force carbonated without incident. The only thing I can knock on the final product is that itís lighter than expected in color, but tastes just like a nice stout should. I would not hesitate to buy or brew this again.

Great beer but not what I expected

I took it for granted what I was brewing would match some version of Guinness I've had and I have to say that having drank Guinness all over the world, including Ireland, a representation of Guinness this is not. I reached out to AIH to explain my experience so I don't give a mixed review for an oversight in the recipe and confirmed this is the intended result. I also punched it into a brew program and it matches pretty well with the final product. The closest style it matches in my experience is very malty porter. It's still delicious so I still give it a 4, but for style it misses the mark for me.

Highly Recommended

This is one of my favorite brews. It is full bodied with a clean finish. I will be brewing this again.

First All Grain Brew

For my first all grain brew, I had excellent results with this kit. Tastes just like the real thing.
