Want to make a Yeast Starter? Home brewers are always led to believe making a yeast starter is for the advanced brewer. This could not be further from the truth. If anything beginning brewers should start with yeast starters. When you think about it they are nothing more than a small extract brew. Show Me How To Make A Yeast Starter

Very clean, hop accentuating yeast

I have used WLP090 for hoppy beers many times. It yields a very clean, hop accentuated beer. A few months ago I split a batch of a hoppy APA and fermented half with WLP090 and half with WLP007. Both beers won awards but they were quite different. The WLP007 beer was delicious (and took 1st place) but less hop forward. So it depends on what you are shooting for. One note: I tend to start my ale fermentations in the low 60s. I have experienced a sort of a stall with WLP090 if the temperature is too low. I heard on a well known podcast that 65F may be a threshold for this yeast. So if I start below 65F I make sure it gets above 65F early on.

My go-to ale yeast

I use this yeast for most of my ales, except for hoppy ones (they get the infamous Conan yeast). Works fast and I haven't noticed any off flavors.

Best IPA yeast

This is my go-to yeast for making american IPAs. it ferments quickly and cleanly with high attenuation and flocculation. I've used it up to about 11% abv with a reasonable starter (2.5L for 5 gallon batch) and got great results.

As Advertised

I've only used it once, but the results were satisfying. It lived up to its portrayal as a better flocculating substitute for US05/1056/001. Next time I want a hop-forward American ale, I'll probably return to this yeast.

My favorite yeast

This yeast is great. It's fast, and neutral flavored. It flocs out quickly, and has become my house yeast. I've never had trouble, and regularly ferment in the 63-68 degree range.
