Q: I am interested in producing an herbal oil extract. I would like to have a precise temperature so I wanted to know if I could use my crockpot as a water bath which would be approximately 180 degrees fahrenheit and place the distiller in it, perhaps with a high temperature suitable plastic bag over it to prevent premature corrosion, I was wondering if that would work, then collect the alcohol outside the crockpot through the copper tubing.
A: this has not been tested with this unit to confirm 100% but in theory if the copper is protected from exposure to the water, could work
Q: What is the diameter of column?
A: 2.5" in diameter for the column
Q: Is there an ability to triclamp an attachment to the column?
A: the water feed inlet and outlet are 1/2' NPT so using a female NPT to tri-clamp fitting can be done at that part of the still
Q: Will this unit do it from start to finish or do I need additional pieces to complete the process like a work or thumper!
Please advise. I will appreciate the truth and buy what is necessary.
A: the still itself will be ready to put to use when it arrives. You would need to have 1/2' NPT female fittings for the inlet water flow and outlet on the condensor but otherwise will include the other needed parts to run the still
Q: whats the approximate maximum volume of finished product from one batch?
A: You should get about a fifth out of a 1-gallon run.
Q: Is this still all I need to start distilling ?
A: this still would be what is needed to perform the actual distillation process. You would still need to produce a "wash" or have a product with alcohol in a solution that would be used in the still to concentrate the alcohol for the finished product
Q: where is the still made?
A: These are produced in Michigan in the US
Q: Does this still have a tray inside to lay the herbs?
A: The still does not currently ship withor include an herb basket or try at this time
Q: Is this still safe enough to use indoors on gas stove or should it be done outdoors with gas flame heater?
A: So long as there is enough ventilation for the exchange of air pulled in by the burner(or stove) your using it can be used indoors as well
Q: Can this also be used for making essential oils?
A: Yes, this still would work fine for producing oils
Q: how do you load and clean the tank.? Is the gauge for pressure or temperature?
A: The column separates from the boiler and provides and opening to use to load and spray into the boiler for cleaning The gauges used would be just to monitor temps and not pressure
