Q: what would be the maximum amount of grain one can use in the 10 gallon tun?
A: 22lbs with a 1qt of water per pound of grain ratio
Q: Can a 6 in temp probe be added
A: There is not currently a port or recommended method for adding a thermometer tot he cooler, but this can be done by the end user if needed
Q: Is the valve heavy duty. I heard they leak if not.
A: the valve used is a 2 piece 304 stainless steel ball valve attached by 1/2" [i[pe thread to a proprietary bulkhead fitting made of the same 304 stainless we had manufactured for the coolers specifically
Q: I want to replace push button spigot with a handle spigot, what dimensions should the spigot be?
A: The opening on the hole would need to be 11/16. This (99-6453) is the part number for a flip top replacement Igloo spigot.
Q: What's the amount of dead space?
A: The dead space should be less than a a couple of quarts
Q: What are the dimensions of th box this ships in? I have size restrictions at my address. Thanks.
A: These units will ship in a 24"16"x16" box. Cheers!
Q: Will this item be placed on sale any time soon?94
A: We do not have current plans to run sales on this item, but do update our newsletter with promotions and sales costs. This would be the best bet to get contact on sales and price reductions
Q: Is this a yellow cooler as pictured?
A: Yes, the collets are currently the yellow coolers with red tops. These are typically what we have on hand, but may receive other colors from time to time. The cool will be the same, just different top and base color
Q: Do I need to take the false bottom apart after each use to clean it fully or is just a good PBW soak enough? If so, how do I take apart as it didn't come with instructions.
A: I would definitely take apart in order to properly clean. Check out this AIH video!
Q: For the 10 gallon mash tun. What efficiency would you typically hit batch sparging instead of fly sparging. Would the all grain recipe kits you sell have to be scaled for batch sparging? Also what.temp loss do you expect for a 60 min mash?
A: Fly sparging will get you around 75% efficiency, we do not know what efficiency you would get for batch sparging because we do not recommend it with these coolers. These coolers are made for fly sparging and batch sparging in these coolers can result in a stuck mash. As long as you preheat your cooler you should only see a drop of a degree or 2.
Q: if i were to replace the ball valve with something along the lines of a Tri-Clover or other 3piece valve ,wwhat would be the recommended size? and if going tri clover for example, what would it be male or female npt?
A: The cooler attachment is 1/2'' MPT- you can remove the ball valve and replace it with any FPT piece
Q: The description says that the hardware included is Stainless steel. The video, on the other hand says the valve and fittings are brass. What is the metallurgy of the valve and fittings on this mash tun?
A: The cooler fittings are now stainless. The video was shoot pre-dated the stainless parts.
Q: Is the cooler that is shipped an Igloo Industrial (yellow & red with taper top/bottom) or an Igloo Legend series like pictured? I understand the color may be different based on the comment in the description. Thanks.
A: The coolers will be the red and yellow coloration most of the time, but we have gotten in other colors based on the availability to us through igloo to keep this product in stock. The hardware and functionality would be the same
Q: If I've purchased a 5 gallon mash tun from you guys could I use the false bottom it came with on a 10 gallon set up or would it be too small?
A: The 5 gallon cooler uses a 9" diameter false bottom and the 10 gallon uses a 12" diameter false bottom. The 5 gallon false bottom is too small to be used in the 10 gallon cooler.
Q: Is it an option to have a probe thermometer installed on the cooler?
A: We prefer not to drill holes through the wall of our coolers, so this isn't an option to do in house. Drilling holes can damage the integrity of the wall, causing poor insulation qualities and leaks.
