25' Economy Wort Chiller
25' 3/8'' chillers are perfect for cooling 5 gallons of wort in minutes. No need to wait hours to pitch your yeast and tempt fate. Minimize bacterial infections of your wort and start fermenting ASAP. A wort chiller in combination with a yeast starter will make any average brewer a great brewer faster than you can chill 5 gallons of wort;)
What makes one chiller "Economy" and another "High Quality"?
Chillers are just coils of copper or stainless steel tubing. 25' of length is generally fine for five gallon batches while 50' chillers are better for ten gallon batches. Both are approximately 10" diameter.
AIH is not an admirer of the "Economy" chillers on the market. The hose is generally just clamped directly to the copper cutting corners (and cost) We still feel this is not the safest of options but will follow suit to supply a competitive option for our loyal customers.
Higher end chillers will supply a compression fitting or soldered fitting to the copper. These fittings will then attach a hose fitting or barb for a safe rigid place to clamp a hose. We still prefer this method over our economy options. We are not trying to talk you out of this chiller, we simply want you to be completely educated on what you are purchasing.
Where do we refuse to cut corners?
While cutting cost, some suppliers have found it acceptable to use thin wall tubing on their wort chillers. We feel this is a hazardous decision and feel thick wall tubing should be mandatory on all chillers.
All AIH made chillers will have thick wall tubing to circumvent any chance of ruptured lines
Chiller works great
I used to buy a couple 20 lb bags of ice and cool in the laundry tub. Hooked this up to the garden hose and 10 minutes later my boiling wort was down to 70 degrees. Wish I would have bought it sooner.

Great product
Don't worry about the fact that this is labeled "economy." It works great. Got my wort from boiling down to 100 degrees in 4 minutes with no issues. You may have to run to home depot to get another adapter depending on your kitchen sink, but those are cheap. This is 100% worth it.

Yeah, sure, could slap together a wort chiller like this all on your own. But I challenge you to end up with something as nice as this. Copper tubing is pricey, this is a good deal. And it works perfectly, no leaks.

Great for the price
It cools 5 gal of wort in ~30 minutes. For $35 it's very worth it as an upgrade from doing an ice bath.

Alright
I used to cool my wort in an ice bath and it took FOREVER. I purchased this before my next big brew day and it definitely saved time. However, the fittings where the tubing meets the copper leak. Unfortunately now I have a watered down beer because while leaving this chiller to do its job, about 1 gallon of water from the faucet leaked into my wort. Whatever I guess.

I attached one end to a small pump and put in ice bath and let it circulate. Drastically reduced the temp from boil to pitching temp - cool time dropped over 60% compared to old method. Works perfect for 5 gal brews - would buy again at this price point.

Perfect for what I needed!
I did check and tighten the clamps before use to ensure no leaks, and reshaped so that the connectors were outside of the kettle in case of any drips (though there were none). Cooled my 3 gal batch from boiling to 73 degrees in 13 minutes!

Works great but there is no gasket
Wort chiller works great, cools down 5 gallons of wort in about 7 minutes. My problem is the one I received doesn't have a gasket between the barbed nipple and the garden hose threaded portion so it leaks significantly. It sprays water from around the nipple all over since there isn’t any sort of waterproof seal.

Good for the cost
My tap water comes out over 100 degrees in the summer, I purchased this as pre-chiller and put in an ice bucket to bring temps down. It works well for that purpose but I wouldn't use it in my wort. I have another chiller which is bent so the water connections hang outside the pot in case it drips. This one is not bent in that way.

The reviewer that just tossed this in his wort.......LMAO! After a couple of new bends to get the ends out and away from my kettle, and some very well tightened hose clamps, this thing works perfect. Of course I scrubbed and checked this thing for blow-offs before it ever went close to my brew. Chilled from 210 to 70 about 12 minutes. I can easily attach some adapters and toss the hose clamps.

A must have!!!
I just brewed my second batch of brew this morning. After the hassle of cooling my wort in the kitchen sink with an ice bath for my first batch, I went looking for something better. I checked the internet, my local brew shop, and even thought about making my own after watching some YouTube videos. I saw the 25’ 3/8'' Economy Copper Wort Chiller and thought for $40 I’ll take a chance. I’m so glad it did. It worked like a charm.

Awesome with a minor tweak!
After reading the reviews on here, I ordered one of these as an add on to my new brew kettle. Since I had read about the problems I knew how to eliminate them as I am a retired mechanic/fabricator. So I took the hoses off took a double flaring tool and created a small bubble on the ends of the chiller and reinstalled the hoses and clamps. Now it's impossible to blow the hoses off. I used it today for the first time and it worked perfectly. took my wort from boiling to 75 degrees in less than 15 minutes. Couldn't be happier!!

Q:
My kitchen faucet doesn't have any threads at all. Will the faucet adapter be able to work on it?
Asked by:
Jeff
- 3/24/2021
A:
this would require a faucet adapter, offered on the drop-down, or a 3/4" garden hose connection for the chiller to work

How does this work and how do you attach it
Asked by:
Judy A Pate
- 3/11/2021
A:
the inlet side has a 3/4" female garden hose side to connect to the water course via male hose connection. The other end has an outlet tube to discharge the hot water. The coil is immersed or put into the beer, and while the water passes through, the copper extracts heat from the wort and cools the beer

I bought this and got the adaptor for the sink and was surprised to find that the adaptor is only threaded on one side, why is that?
Asked by:

A:
the adapter should have a male garden hose 3/4" thread to connect to the chiller inlet feed, and will have a female recessed smaller thread on the opposit end of the adapter, for us in attaching to sink faucets male end, once the aerator tip is removed from the faucet it self

I was going to us this to cool off the nutrient solution in my hydro system by pumping the solution through this and have the copper sitting in a cooler packed with ice water. I was gonna use a 350 gph pump. Has anyone ever asked you guys about anything like this.? Should it work? Thanks
Asked by:

A:
in theory, this would work OK. The chillers main purpose is heat exchanging and while its intended for use being submersed into a solution to remove temperature from it, can be used in the opposite direction to apply cold temps

What is the difference between this and the non economy version? Can the tubes be bent do that the connection hangs outside of the pot in case of a leak or drip?
Asked by:
Deepak
- 7/4/2019
A:
the non-economy version will have compression fittings used to attach the fittings to the copper where the economy uses adjustable clamps that will need attention and retightening over time as the chiller is used. The chiller coils are compressed for shipping by can be expanded and moved to suit the size of your kettle to keep the fittings over the edge on the outside

Looking at using this with your 10 gallon pot for 5 gallon batches. Will there be any issue with it not being able to reach the wort due to the height of the pot?

The coil can be expanded out to accomodate higher heights of kettles being used and still have proper wort contact. They are compressed before packaging to ship in smaller boxes

A:
Copper is a very conductive material so if it makes contact with the bottom of the kettle so it may or may not transfer enough heat into the mash to run into issue with scorching. Controlling the burner without a PID means turning the burner on and off manually by hand. This wouldn't pose an issue but would need plenty of attention to maintain consistent temps

Q:
Do the parts of the pipe that connect to the tubes hang directly over the coil? Like, if there was not a good seal, could water potentially drip into the cooling wort? An overhead view of the chiller would also answer this question.

A:
To answer your question yes, if it were leaving it would leak into your wort. The chiller is submerged and the connections are directly over top the coils when submerged.
