Q: are the lids air tight? I bought a few 2 1/2 gallon buckets and the airlocks never bubbled.
A: Many fermenting buckets by design are not going to be air tight, even when gasketed. This allows for gas escape around the kids edge before enough pressure being built in the bucket to pop off the lid completely, that would expose your full batch to outside contaminates
Q: Is the add-on lid solid or drilled?
A: The add on lid would include a grommet and be drilled for a 3/8" airlock stem
Q: Does it have a thermometer built into the side of the bucket like most do for wine?
A: This bucket does not have a thermometer attached to it however you can purchase a sick on thermometer if you like.
Q: Will this bucket accept a gamma seal lid?
A: These buckets would not be able to work with the gamma seal lid designs
Q: Is this a screw on lid?
A: The lids snap into place and are not a screw on lid
Q: Normally I would only use these to ferment a 5G recipe, but is there enough headspace/extra room to ferment a 6G recipe? thanks.
A: 5 gallons would put the fluid level close to the top of the container. you could ferment 6 gallons but would need to rig a blow off tube do to the amount of potential foaming that can happen during fermentation
Q: What kind of plastic is the bucket made of?
- Is it BPA free?
What max temperature (hot wort) can it handle for transfer?
A: These are made with HDPE 2. We don't recommend using liquids over 180 f.
Q: Does this bucket have a hole drilled in it?
A: This product does not, but item #24-5100 does come drilled with the additional option of a spigot add on.
Q: Any idea the dimensions of these buckets? I am hoping to bring some back with me overseas and was curious on carry-on possibilities.
A: These buckets are 13" diameter x 17-1/2" tall.
Q: Are these UK gallons or us?
Q: The bucket comes with lid?
A: This bucket does not come with a lid but there is an option to add one for $2.99.
Q: Assuming I need my buckets to have an airtight seal and handle some pressure from within, and I also need a way to put a sensor (with a wire or fiber of some kind) into the bucket while it is sealed. What options should I have added to the buckets?
Can the 6.5 gallon ale pail handle such a setup?
A: Unfortunately these buckets are not completely air tight. For standard brewing application they work just fine, but I do not think they will work for your needs.
Q: What are the dimensions of this bucket?
A: 12" diameter x 17-1/2" tall
