Hop Bullet Amazing
Ordered the extract kit added the 1% ABV booster (14oz corn sugar) Brewed per recipe, yet Dry hopped on day 5 with 1/2 oz Citra Lupulin Day 12 dry hopped 1/4oz Citra Lupulin. Original gravity 1.058 Final 1.024 Be careful with the Lupluin hops they are very strong! I was wanting a lighter body brew with a hop hit. AKA Session/All Day IPA. My inspiration was Sierra Nevada Hop Bullet without the 8% abv. and I did it! This beer has a lighter body reasonable abv with low bitter BUT an Awesome up front hop hit aroma with a resinous DANK (yes Dank hit) fruitiness hops of the Citra Lupulin ring through the senses. The smell of the empty pint is Yumdelilishes. I've finally brewed a beer that I actually wanted! that came out perfect!! This is why I brew beer! I will be ordering another because this keg will go fast. Thanks AIH

Great beer!
Turned out perfectly. I had some extra maple sap, so I used that in place of water. Added a touch more abv. Will definitely brew this again.

Not too Shabby
1st brew recipe ever. After a quick fermentation I transferred to secondary for a few days, bottle conditioned for a few days and just tried my first one. Clean and Clear, will brew again.

Wow!
Turned out better than I expected and is my favorite recipe. Took the other reviewer's advice and toned down the hops by a little bit. Came out with great legs, good body, and tasted perfectly. 10/10 will brew this one again!

Turned Out Great
I bought two of these and I am very glad I did. The first one turned out great! The alpha acid on the hops were in the high range, but not out of the range, at 9.9%. I still used them all, but took 3 minutes off the time for the bittering hops. It turned out great. With the second batch, I used all the hops, as a little more bitterness will only more fully imbue the American Pale ale taste. The first batch was fantastic. I can't wait to try the next one in a few weeks. This is definitely the go-to beer I have been looking for at home.

Q:
On this American pale ale extract kit why only start with 2 1/2 gallons of water ? Seems not enough , I can boil off a gallon in one hour leaving me with very little wort . Any extract I’ve ever done was at least 3 1/2 gallons to start , thinking I’m going to add another gallon to start
Asked by:
Frank filacchione
- 5/20/2020
A:
if your evaporation rate is a bit higher on your set up you can use more initial water in the boil.

Q:
I have a question which possibly is answered in the kit instructions, but I'd like to get your thoughts of this before I purchase the American Pale Ale kit with dried malt extract. I have a basement which for the next two or three months will be around 60 to 70 degrees. I will ferment the ale in my home or garage where the temperature will be between 65 to 75 degrees. I know ale is made differently than lager but, when my hydrometer shows the ale has reached terminal gravity, shouldn't I rack the ale into a glass carboy, fit a fermentation lock and allow the ale to sit in my basement for about 20 to 30 days before I bottle it? My intent in doing this not to per se "lager" the ale but to give it 20 to 30 days to clarify before bottling. I've recently read some articles that appear instruct you to bottle when terminal gravity is reached and not to rack the ale and allow it to "cellar" for 20 to 30 days before bottling. So when exactly do I bottle this ale? Thanks!
Asked by:
Bill Hofstetter
- 3/9/2019
A:
The batch can either be kept at cellar temps for 2 weeks to clear in a secondary fermenter, or carboy, or bottled and allowed to clear in the bottle during carbonation. Either method would work fine, with the secondary fermentation leaving behind less sediment in the bottles but otherwise, would be brewers choice

Q:
With this extract kit, can you divide the extract and other ingredients in half so that you can make a 2.5 gallon batch?
Asked by:
Bill Hofstetter
- 3/3/2019
A:
The specialty grains on the kits will be mixed so portioning those evenly is a bit trickier but the other items, in theory, could be split for a 2.5 gallon batch

What temperature do you suggest for Primary fermentation?
Asked by:
John Urban
- 4/9/2017
A:
Temps in the mid 60's to low 70's would be perfect for this batch for primary

Q:
I am a 2nd time brewer. For the American Pale Ale, what will I need for Yeast?, Irish Moss and Hop Bags?
Asked by:
Bill
- 4/17/2014
A:
All of these items are personal preference. Irish moss is a clarifying agent. Some people use it on all of their beers, others don't use it at all. Few people bag their hops, most people do not. All of the available yeast options on this recipe are similar strains perfect for an american pale, only different in brand preference or personal experience with specific strains.
