First Brew
This was the first brew I have ever made and could not be more pleased with the results. I shared it with several of my friends and without exception they all want to know when I will be making it again.

Perfect
Hello. I am not the type to add reviews often, but this beer was top-notch. This was clearly the best batch of beer I have ever made after at least 50 batches. It has a beautiful light color. Tastes almost exactly like Blue Moon. Has all the coriander and citrus notes. It's a lot of fun to make as well due to the different ingredients in the boil, such as coriander and marmalade. You guys nailed it! Trust me, if you make this correctly, you will love it!

Best Blue Moon Clone I have tasted to date
I love Blue Moon beer and I have tried quite a few clones out there and this clone is by far the best. I had my neighbor taste it and he usually drinks rum and coke, he even said he would go back to drinking beer with this clone. Excellent job and I am looking forward to making it again which will be very soon as notice my keg is getting low.

Better than the original!
I love Blue Moon, one of my favorite beers for sure. I brewed this kit hoping to get close to the original but not expecting it to be quite as good. To my surprise I find this one even better than the original. It tastes just like Blue Moon but with more of the candi sugar flavor coming out.

Huge Hit
I brewed this up for Memorial Day BBQ and there we no disappoints at all. It seemed to be a favorite to the Women at the party over the Stout I also brewed. The kit is a little bit advanced but nothing too difficult at all.

Great wheat, Wife approves!
I really like Blue moon and when I saw this clone, well.... This was my 2nd home brew attempt. For priming the beer, I added .75 Ozs more priming sugar along with the zest of 1 orange. I boiled my priming sugar water with the orange zest, then strained it out prior to adding to wort. Great mild flavor, good carbonation. I did notice the yeast cake did not drop after 17 days in primary fermentation, so I may have left it in primary a bit too long, but no side flavors noticed. I will boil longer when brewing next batch to increase OG up a bit.

Blue Moon Clone
Let me tell ya....after trying 3 BM clones, my hopes were low. I was very pleasantly surprised when I popped the 4th one open. I say 4th b/c I had to let it age in bottle for about 6-8 weeks for the coriander flavor to mellow out. I crushed it and that made it stronger. Lesson learned. But this is an absolute fantastic clone!!! I have no desire whatsoever to shop around for another BM clone. This is the one. As a matter of fact, I am ordering 3 more kits as soon as I finish this review. For the record, I used US-05 yeast.

Terrific! Poured a couple pints off the tap this evening after work and very pleased with how this beer turned out. I am a kitchen brewer so no fancy equipment required to make a tasty beer. Crisp and Clean
I was very surprised how well this turned out. It does have a great light "blue moon" taste to it...but..if you're like me and a huge blue moon fan...it tends to taste on the "watery" side. Don't get me wrong, good taste, just not as strong of flavor as Blue Moon. I would get again though.

Q:
In the description section as well as in the instruction sheet, it mentions tettnang and saaz hops, but there is also an option towards the top to "add 7" hop bags". Are the tettnang and saaz hops only included if you add the 7" hop bags? And what all is included in the order if you don't add any of the yeast, options, or additions?
Asked by:
Hal
- 3/22/2021
A:
The hops, malt extract, steeping grains and spices needed are included. Yeast, priming sugar, bottle caps and hop steeping bags are not included in the price but will be needed for the process

Making the blue moon extract kit I bought this week. Does the corriander beer to be crushed? Also Should I bag the orange peel and corriander to keep it from fermenter? Or let it transfer with the wort to the fermenter?
Asked by:
Stephen
- 3/3/2020
A:
the corriander seeds work best when crushed lightly with a rolling pin or a quick pulse in a coffee grinder if you have one available. Those along with the other spices can be bagged and removed before adding to the fermenter, or added to the fermenter if you do not bag them as they would not change the flavor profile of the batch either way-A bit of brewers choice there

Q:
I'm reviewing the brew instructions for the Blue Moon clone which I'm about to purchase. The hop schedule/timeline isn't very clear/or could be easily misunderstood. The timeline starts for the first ingredient at 60 minutes, is that 60 minutes to go or at the end of the 60 minute boil? Then every ingrediate after that just says 5 minutes. Are they all added within 5 minutes of the boil? With 5 minutes remaining? Or start 5 minutes after the above first ingredient and then each one added 5 minutes after the prior? Thanks for your help...and maybe consider clearer instructions to help out the novices such as myself!
Asked by:
Gerald Emerson
- 10/2/2019
A:
Traditional hops schedules will always be listed as a count down from 60 so the first addition listed at 60 minutes will go in at the beginning of the rapid boil, as you start your timer counting down, and the last addition goes in with 5 minutes remaining before the boil is completed

I prefer Wpl400 for this recipe as my go-to for the yeast option. The other items would not be required to have on hand for brewday but if he bottles, picking up priming sugar and bottle caps from the add on menu would be a good bet to make sure he has those.

Is this an extract can?
Asked by:
Bob

this would not be a pre-hopped extract kit. The recipe would require having a boil kettle to steep specialty grains for color and flavor, and perform an hour long boil where the hops and extract are added to complete the wort

The included instructions say that the Orange Peel and Coriander are to be added for the last five minutes of the boil. However, Lauren A's answer on 9/9/18 below says that they are to be added to the secondary. Please clarify.
Asked by:
Derek Wilson
- 11/18/2018
A:
While either can be done to extract the flavor profile of the spices, the intention on the recipe is a boil addition as called for. The previous message has been removed to avoid any confusion. When in doubt, follow the recipe sheet as shipped with the order

The Blue Moon will contain the grain bill, hops, grain bag, LME, spices, and orange. If you need yeast you will want to make the selection from the drop-down menu.

the blue moon would ship with everything aside from the yeast needed to brew the batch. The yeast options can be a matter of preference on the brewer but the drop down menu would provide the yeast we recommend that would be the only other main thing you'll need to get the beer brewed when it arrives

Q:
I recently purchased the Blue Moon Clone extract kit and will be brewing soon. When I read the back of WLP400 Belgian Wit / Ale Yeast pack, it says that for SG up to 1.048, 1 Pure Pitch, No Starter. However, the kit info says the SG is 1.056 which would mean 2 PurePitch or 1 PurePitch with 1L starter should be used. The kit only came with 1 PurePitch. Does this mean that a 1L Starter is required, or should I have received 2 PurePitch yeast packs?
Asked by:
Terry
- 6/13/2018
A:
The purpitch packs can actaully accomodate wrots up to 1.065 before a starter would absolutely need to be done, IT neverhurts to build on for any batch, but in this case would be fine direct pitching the single package

Q:
For the Blue Moon clone I understand that it will need to be fermenting for about 2 weeks, but how long should it be bottled before you attempt to serve it? I want to bring it for vacation so I kind of need a time frame if possible, please.

A:
About 2 weeks in the bottle will be needed. 4-5 weeks from brew day, to cracking the first bottles is a good estimate for the timeline

Q:
1st try at the blue moon kit and notice that the fermentation is not as bubbly as I’m used to seeing. Bubbles about 36 hrs and now is silent. Has a very fluffy head in fermenter, should I be concerned? I’m not inclined to stir as I am concerned with contamination. Tested SG and it’s actually higher than OG

A:
The gravity should be decreasing as the batch ferments, and would not be uncommon for the yeast used on the Blue Moon to ferment out most of the sugars in about 48 hours and go a bit silet for airlock activity. I would confirm your hydrometer is reading 1.000 when placed in water at 65 degrees to make sure its calibrated, otherwise without adding extra sugars t the batch after it began fermenting, there would be no way for the gravity to raise, when the yeast is depleting sugars as it feremnts. I would let it go for another 5-7 days, check the final gravity and move on to the next phase, if ready, from there

Q:
1. Is it ok to mash in the grain bag the grain wash shipped in or do I need to use smaller bags? 2. After mashing is it ok to top off to a full boil, 5 gallons?

A:
the grains can steep in the bag provided as we use the best size to accomodate the amount of grains in the batch. you an do a full wort boil as opposed to the partial boil if you kettle has the volume to accomodate it.
