Q: Hi, I purchased the Brewers Best Kolsch kit and have a couple questions as this is my first time trying to brew at home myself.. it calls to do a second fermentation is this process necessary? I brewed it on Feb 17th and took the hydrometer reading which it was in the correct measurment area....about a week later i re-took that measurement and it says its in the finish stage.... Does this seem correct a week doesn't seem very long and i'm beginning to think i've done something wrong. If you could get back to me that would be appreciated.
Thanks so much,
A: The batch did likely finish up in the 5 day period as Kolschs dont have too much sugar for the yeast to convert. If you are seeing the final gravity reading, you can give the batch another few days to settle some of the sediment and yeast out in the primary fermenter, and then either rack to a 2ndary to clear a bit more before bottling, or move on to the bottling stage at your preference.
Q: New to this. How much beer does each kit make? Is it hard to get quality beer?
