Product Description

A refractometer instantly reads gravity, in Brix and gravity, of unfermented wort or fruit juice by measuring the degree that light passing through the sample is bent. Unlike a hydrometer, only a few drops are required for a sample. To use, apply 2-3 drops to the prism face, close cover, and look through the eyepiece while aiming your refractometer at a light source.

Our refractometers measure from 0-32 Brix (with an accuracy of +/- 0.2 Brix) and 1.000 to 1.120 SG. They also include automatic temperature compensation for temperatures between 50-86 F, which eliminates the need to consult temperature correction charts.

Please note: the refractometer is not to be used after fermentation has started, light refracts differently through alcohol than it does water and sugar.

Step up from hydrometer
I don't know why I waited over twenty years to buy one of these. No more fooling with hydrometers to check starting gravities of juices, or even wort. Just a drop of liquid and a second or two of time. I'd be tempted to call this a must-have to winemakers and brewers.

Great value, one question
Works great for taking a quick reading. Very easy to read if light is bright enough - like daylight. Another reviewer noted that it also has S.G. scale. Mine does too. At the top of the view it says "20 C" which makes me wonder if this unit has the dual scale instead of the ATC feature. The instructions indicate that ATC is an option, not standard, but there is no way to tell - there are absolutely no markings on the unit. I compared to hydrometer and it was spot on. Since hydrometer is not temperature corrected, this supports theory that this unit does not have ATC. For the price, I will take the trade of dual scale for ATC. It just would be nice to know for sure. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Has Gravity Markings
Having this thing is awesome! I can't believe how much easier it is to not have to fool around with filling a test tube with wort and floating my bobbing hydrometer on there and trying to read the lines. Plus now I can take readings all throughout the brewing process to know if gravity is high or low and start to trouble-shoot much earlier in the process than just checking my final product to find out my gravity is higher/lower than planned. Also, the refractometer has both Brix and Gravity scale on it. One of the Questions here said it only had Brix.

Neat tool!
When I tried this out on brew day, I was a tad anxious and used my hydrometer in parallel with this refractometer. Spot on! This device is so much simpler to use than the hydro and is of sturdy construction, so it's well worth the money.

Saved My Brew Day
I have been very pleased with your service. It was easy to order and the items seemed to arrive faster than I expected. Both items are great. The Erlenmeyer flask was just what I needed to make starters easier. The refract meter kind of saved my brew day. I had boiled for about 55 min of a 60 min boil. I took a sample with the refract meter and was still too low on my OG so I let it boil about an extra 10 min to hit the OG spot on.
