Happy with my starter mill
The short version: I was hesitant to purchase a mill, but don't regret it at all and recommend it for other brewers breaking through the beginner stage. Long version: This is the second mill I've ever used, the first being my LHBS mill, and I am quite happy with my purchase! I agree with the rest of the reviews about instructions, they're basically worthless, but assembly was pretty straight forward, with very little to get wrong. I figure if you're brewing your own beer, you probably like to make things and shouldn't have much of a problem. I pealed the inside protective coating off of the hopper pieces, but left the outside, it's a bit of a pain and figure the outside doesn't matter. On brew day, I was able to quickly adjust my crush by starting in the middle and doing a handful of grain at a time until it was a little more fine than were I thought the LHBS crush was. Adjustment is easy, loosen the thumb screws on both sides, turn the adjustment dials, tighten thumb screws, done. I used my cordless drill to eat through my 11lb grain bill in a few minutes, took 3 refills though. I may get or make a hopper extension at some point. This was an experiment for me, I wasn't sure how badly I wanted to go bulk. Seems it would take a year or two to hit the ROI at the rate I brew. But, now realize it's not exactly for cost savings. While, I can buy a bag or two of base malt and save a few bucks, I can have my base malt, then over buy whatever I'm brewing with from there, it just gives me so much flexibility for brew day and sets me up to potentially brew without dealing with the local shop hours. I change my recipe frequently before that strike water is up to temp. I also don't have to wait in line at the LHBS and pick up chocolate malt dust in my APA grain anymore, lol!

Awesome mill
Shipped quickly, easy to assemble, seems well-built and worked great with my drill. I like the new dials for setting the gap compared to the older model serial killer I had years ago. I got excellent efficiency grinding one pass through at around .3. Great mill at a great price. Thanks AIH!

Perfect!
Really impressed with how well it is made, feels super solid and huge step up from the corona mill I was using. Took advice from other reviews and used a feeler gauge to set the rollers. Instructions could be a little better, but other than that this works perfect for me.

Love it
My first grain mill. I’ve done 3 batches and I love it. My mash efficiency has gone up about 10%. Gets through a 5 gallon batch of grain in just a few minutes. Easy to assemble and only took a couple minutes to dial in the gap.

Great product and great price
This malt mill works great. Sure, it takes a bit of time to find your perfect setting, but for the price, you just can not beat it. The instructions that come with it for assembly aren't all that great, but I think anyone with a bit of common sense can just look at the parts and figure it out. I had it put together in 3 minutes. it took about 5 minutes to adjust the gap to where I was happy with the crush. It is very sturdy. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the numbers on the gap setting dials could be set in a contrasting color to be more visible. Some of us old folks don't need to be squinting that hard to read it. All in all, this mill performs just as well as any of the other mills that I have used, and is a fraction of the cost of most mills.

Nice Mill for the cost
Nice grain mill, easy to assemble. rollers are heavier duty than expected. Easy to adjust. Crank and crank handle need to be tightened every so often when milling 11 pounds. Will tighten them a little tighter before starting next time.

Great grain mill!
I set this for the average that most grain mills are set to and connected it up to my drill. It does a great job! Every last bit of the grain was milled the way I wanted it to be and my Anvil Foundry was more efficient than I had originally estimated as a result of the good milling. Make sure you remove the blue protective wrap from it... it's going to come off eventually so do it when you're assembling it so you wont have to take it apart later.

Pretty Good
This mill does what it is advertised to do. The only thing I don't like about it is the rubber pieces around the top that protect you from the sharp edges fall off easily.

It's a tool that will last a lifetime
I don't write a lot of reviews, but this thing got me really excited. I didn't expect much for $80. That's nearly half what you would pay for similar grain mills on other homebrewing websites. When I received it in the mail I was happy to find out that this thing is built like a tank. It's made nearly completely of solid aluminum and steel. I see this lasting me for the rest of my life. The only thing to be aware of, is that when you turn the handle it only spins one roller, which makes it take a little longer than a mill that spins both rollers. Those mills are expensive. For a homebrewer like me who only does about 10 to 15lbs of grain at a time, its perfectly fine. It took me about 8 minutes to mill 11 lbs.

Good First Mill
This is my first mill so I have nothing to compare it to. It crunches the grain real fast, it only took a minute or two to grind 13 pounds with a drill. The instructions are useless but you can put it together using a little common sense. It was missing a screw so I went to the local hardware store and got one for less than a buck. The rubber guards on top fit poorly so you'll need to glue them in or deal with them always coming off. I set it to .038 using feeler gauges and it was too fine so I set it to .041 and will give it a try. Don't try to use the settings labeled on the outside as they are not accurate. Overall, for the price, I'm happy with this product.

Mills Grain
I have used this mill twice so far. Works great. The first time running grain though I had to shuffle the grain around in the hopper to get it to feed to the rollers because it kept getting stuck. Had to bend the metal of the hopper a bit so the bottom opening was larger, and the second time through it worked like a charm. Adding a drill definitely works and makes things a lot easier. Assembly was a little tedious but not too bad. Did not want to spend over $100 on a mill, and this does the trick so I can buy grain in bulk.

Great budget mill
For the price this is a great mill. I always wanted to buy a mill, but could never justify spending $120+ on one. Used it for the first time on Saturday and my mash efficiency went up 10% from using the mill at my LHBS. I'm doing BIAB so a fine crush was an absolute must (set the rollers to .030 and double milled). Only issue is it does get a bit messy since there's no cover for the bottom. I made one from some scrap wood I had on brew day. Not good looking, but it worked until I can fabricate a nicer looking one. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for mill that's budget friendly.

The mill will ship with a metal base designed to fit over a 5 gallon bucket. You could remove that and create a board or wooden base using the holes marked for the screws on the metal base as a template

Q:
My mill technically works, but it is taking about 45 minutes to mill 10 pounds of grain. I don't know exactly what the problem is, but it seems the grain won't feed to the rollers if the drill is going with any speed at all. Is there a fix for this?
Asked by:
Tim W
- 11/15/2020
A:
checking to make sure the passive roller not attached to the drive shaft, is moving freely with no grain in the mill one be one thing to check. We recommend using a .034-.036" gap setting for the best crush on most grains. If running a finer crush and the drill speed is moving too fast, it will allow the kernels to sit on top of the rollers and will not pull through as well as a slightly wider setting with a slower speed

Q:
There are conflicting answers to the question about whether the Crop Duster has case hardened steel rollers. Multiple answers state that this is true and that the roller mechanism is the same as in the Cereal Killer, however the most recent answer from 7/18/20 now says that the Crop Duster does NOT have case hardened rollers and calls them just "304 Stainless steel". Can you please clarify this and confirm that the Crop Duster has been down-graded, no longer shipping with case hardened rollers as indicated in prior answers? Also, it would be helpful if the prior answers were updated so that they are not contradictory to prevent further confusion.
Asked by:
Andrew Swihart
- 7/26/2020
A:
This mill would not have case hardened rollers. They are made from 304 stainless steel. All previously mentioned questions and the Description of the product are now current for what would be shipping as of July 2020

The mills were processed and shipped from the manufacturer and we are just awaiting the receipt of the mills later in the month to being shipping. Some manufacturing slowdowns due to the COVID situation did delay the processing timeline a bit but will be fulfilling all of the preorders as soon as the mills are available
