Q: Would I be able to make this recipe using the brew in bag technique?
A: This can be done taking into account the recipe is designed for 70-75% efficiency on a standard mash tun set up, and BIAb typically draws a few points below this so adjusting for the loss by adding a pound of two or more of base 2 row to the cart would be best based off of your current brew house effiiancey
Q: Is it possible to request a double milling on this kit? I would like to use it in my BIAB system. Also, is this a silly question?
A: This can be accomodate by request with a note in the comment section of the checkout screen on the order. We get this request often and are happy to accomodate where needed
Q: Brewed the double chocolate stout this past weekend. Had some issues, 1) forgot to add the flaked oats, 2) accidentally added 16oz. Of cocoa powder. Fermentation has seemed to be normal.
My question is, can I brew the same kit, add the flaked oats, don't add any cocoa powder, ferment as normal then combine the two, to create a 10 gal batch?
A: Sure thing! This would blend the flavor profiles together to give you 1 finished product of the same beer
Q: I didn't add the flaked wheat to the mash, what will be the result of this oversight?
A: the batch will likely have a bit lower original gravity and slightly less body and mouthfeel both otherwise would not be greatly effected
Q: Would this beer hold up to bourbon soaked oak spirals and cocoa nibs or coffee in the secondary?
A: This batch would do just fine on oak and provide a nice flavor profile to the batch in addtion to the malts used on the recipe
Q: do you not give directions with purchased kits?
A: Directions will be shipped within the grain bag when the kit is purchased and a pdf copy can be sent prior to order to review with an E-mail request sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
Q: Does this kit require secondary fermentation?
A: The beer would benefit from a short secondary fermentation for 1 week for conditioning but is not required for the style so long as the bed hits the recommended finishing gravity prior to bottling
Q: What time do you add the cluster hops and what time do you add the EK hops?
A: the cluster will be added at 60 minutes, and the EKG's at 15 minutes remaining in the boil.
Q: Is this a five gallon prone gallon batch?
Q: For the required baker's chocolate, is it supposed to be unsweetened or sweetened?
No Answers have been submitted yet.
Q: At what time do you add the Flavor Hops?
A: The flavor hops are added with 15 minutes left in the boil.
Do you recommend the addition of cocoa nibs to this recipe?..I intend to add them in the secondary fermenter.
A: Hi, Although the recipe does not call for the use of Nibs you can certainly add them to the secondary fermenter to add more depth of chocolate flavor. Cheers!
Q: The description mentions 6oz of baker's chocolate but that ingredient isn't mentioned in the recipe. Are you supposed to add the baker's chocolate and, if so, when should it be added to the recipe?
A: Yes, you add the bakers chocolate. You want to add to the end of boil, and make sure the chocolate is dissolved.
