Beer
Solid beer but could have been better. Unfortunately, the liquid malt had spilled in the delivery process which left a mess in the packaging.

Awesome Dunkel
I had been getting growlers of an abita chocolate weisse for a while. I finally looked it up and found out it was a dunkelweizen. I order kegs and supplies from AIH often and noticed they had the dunkel kit on sale so I grabbed a couple to do a 10 gal batch. It turned out so great that I ordered 2 more. I put 2 lbs of pale chocolate malt in the steep on the second batch and its even better, and extremely close to the abita chocolate weiss I was looking for.

Worth Brewing..Easy
Opened my first of the 53 bottles my Dunkelweizen produced. After 3 weeks in the bottle I poured my first one into my Pint Glass..Color was Nice, a slight light wheat smell but a little weak on the taste for me but still very good, I think maybe another 2 weeks in the bottle would bring a little more flavor out but we all know that it's not going to last that long. If you like a Dunkelweizen add this one to your list to try. Cheers Mates.

Roasty goodness
I added a full pound of chocolate rye from this website, yes a full pound, it was a little rough at first, but man it mellowed out nicely. As the other review, it did not last long in the keg once everything came together.

Excellent Kit
This beer was everything I expected from a Dunkelweizen. The hops were certainly not overpowering, and the malt flavors coupled with the yeast were perfect. I kegged it, and it didn't last long. Thanks!

Q:
I'm interested in brewing beer because my favorite variety of beer is dunkelweizen and since Trader Joe's stopped making theirs it's been really hard to find. So I need to know what I need to make dunkelweizen at home. Thank you
Asked by:
Laura R Lux-Wells
- 9/19/2020
A:
other than what is included in the recipe, a basic brewing kit like item ID 24-1000 and a stainless 5 gallon stock kettle would be the basic things needed to produce a batch

Q:
I received the expected Northern Brewer hops but also a bag of hallertau mittelfruh as well. I don't see this in the recipe. Was this just an error?
Asked by:
Mark S
- 6/19/2019
A:
The mittelfruh was likely shipped in error as it is not needed for this kit. It can be kept in the fridge and used towards a future batch!

Q:
I'm getting ready to brew your Belgium white delicious and bought the wyeast 3944. Curious how much change you think would take place if I reused the 3944 yeast after moving to secondary for the Dunkleweizen you have on free ship that is asking for baverian wheat yeast? Would there be that much change in flavor?
Asked by:
Matthew Britton
- 2/27/2017
A:
The 3944 can be used on a Dunkleweizen, but will have different flavor profiles that if using a traditional German Wheat yeast. The 3944 is slightly more spicy and has a subdued fruit flavor profile, where the traditional German wheat strains tend to be more heavy on the Banana and Clove esters, depending on fermentation temperatures.

Q:
Can you link the recipe instructions in the description? Specifically, I'm looking for the IBU and ABV.
Asked by:
Jeff Krueger
- 1/22/2017
A:
The expected ABV of this kit is 4.3%, and the expected IBUs are 19. We will have the recipes re-uploaded to the descriptions shortly. In the meantime, you can always email us at

to get a copy of any recipe before you make your purchase.

Q:
I'm worried about the temperature 68-74', I will be brewing in Orlando Florida in the summer, my house is about 78' with the AC. Should I wait til the fall?
Asked by:
Greg
- 5/19/2016
A:
Thanks for the questions, Greg. I would definitely recommend fermenting the Dunkelweizen closer to the 68 degree mark. You will most-likely find that the yeast will produce a very "estery" off flavor if fermented at that temperature. Cheers!

Q:
Is this a full kit with its own yeast, priming sugar and steeping bags? Are there any grains to steep? and is it a 5 gallon extract kit? :)
Asked by:
billy Duke
- 2/3/2016
A:
It is a 5 gallon extract kit. It includes everything but priming sugar and yeast which are an additional cost. Yes there are grains to be steeped. You can view the recipe under description.
