Irish Setter Irish Red Recipe Kit

The Irish Red is one of the most distinctive of sporting brews, the mahogany red of our Irish Setter Red Ale is a classic Irish Red. Malty up front, with a light toffee/caramel character through the middle. Slightly dry finish. A flavorful session beer. Dry yeast is optional, but original recipe calls for Wyeast or White Labs. *Trivia: One of the most distinctive Sporting breeds, the mahogany red Irish Setter is an active, aristocratic bird dog. Originally bred to be red and white, the solid red color appeared in Ireland the 19th century and became a mark of quality and superior sporting ability. Over two feet tall at the shoulder, the Irish is known for his style, powerful movement and clown-like personality.

Smooth Session Beer
This is a nice malty smooth beer that is great for an afternoon with friends. Watch the carbonation if you use natural carbonation. It is easy to overdo this one and it will get fizzy.

Good - but with hints of "spice"
Which I think comes from the 3oz of Special B. Hoping it mellows out over time - I don't like spiced beers, i.e. Christmas beers, but like a good Red.

Great Beer
I bought this as my first brew after upgrading from the Mr. Beer stuff. I decided to do an Irish Red as a thank you to my wife who was nice enough to let me invest in upgrading to big batch brews. Irish Reds are her favorites. Both she and I loved it, as did everyone else who tried it (evidenced by the fact that the entire keg was gone after one night). This Irish read had a great malty taste to it. I used the White Labs Yeast, two weeks in primary and a week in secondary, carbonated it in the keg for three days at 12 PSI, then let it sit for a week before having people over to taste it.
