Q: Will this unit return to user-programmed operation after a power failure? If not, do you have a digital one that will?
A: This unit should stay within user programmed temps after a power outage. We use the same controller on our walk in coolers and have not had problems after a short or long term outage
Q: Is this the unit that the freezer plugs in to and then the unit is plugged into an outlet?
A: Yes, That would be correct. The freezer or fridge plugs in the female plug, the unit controls the temp with a probe in the fridge that will power cycle the motor on and off as needed to chill
Q: This unit turns the power to the fridge/freezer on and off according to the set temp correct? If you want the temp lower than the internal thermostat, how does it bypass the internal thermostat to keep the compressor running? Wouldn't the internal thermostat keep the compressor in the off position?
A: In order to get the temperature below the setting of the internal thermostat, you would have to bypass the internal thermostat. Typically, we suggest turning the fridge/freezer to the coldest setting and letting the A421 control the temperature.
Q: I want to use this with my old refrigerator/freezer. Does it matter if it is a frost free model?
A: the frost Free feature should not effect the controller. This unit will be an over ride thermostat to the one built into the freeze, and only allow the compressor to switch on when the temp raises above what the controller is set for
Q: is the temperature probe submersible? I want to put a carboy in a few inches of water with a fish tank heater. Can I put the temp probe in the water to control the water temp?
A: the probe is waterproof that is supplied with this unit. The heater would need to be plugged into the controller in order for it to act as a thermocouple for the heater
Q: does the external thermostat a;sp work with 220 volts for use in Asia or Europe ?
A: This controller is not set up for use with 220v.
Q: If using this product with a fridge/freezer side by side combo is it possible to have dual temps for unit. Meaning can I set temp in fridge for beer ops while leaving freezer side for traditional uses? Thanks
A: Unfortunately this unit only has 1 thermostat control and is designed for 1 plug so it can only control the fridge/freezer as a whole unit. This unit turns the whole fridge/freezer off and on depending on the temp inside the fridge. Thanks
Q: If I put a mini fridge in something like this, how do you bypass the thermostat of the fridge, and allow it to run based on the temp control? My understanding is the temp control tells the fridge when to turn on / off, but if the temp is at the lowest setting on the fridge and you want it colder than that, how does it know to stay running?
A: This unit functions by the temp inside the fridge. The temp is read by the probe you put into the fridge. After you set the temp you wish to keep the fridge at. This unit monitors the temp inside the fridge, when the temp raises above the desired temp, the unit turns the fridge on and keeps it running until the temp inside reaches the temp you set this unit to. When the inside reaches the temp you want, this unit shuts the fridge off until the temp raises again. Thanks
Q: Do you have the optional 12" probe that works with this unit?
A: Hi there, unfortunately we do not sell the 12' probe that works with this unit. Have a great day. Thanks!
Q: CAN I USE THIS WITH A REFRIGERATOR THAT THAT ALREADY HAS CONTROLS THAT WORK ? AND WOULD I NEED TO SET MY REFRIGERATOR AT SAY A MEDIUM TEMP ? THAN SET YOUR DEVICE.
A: Yes this unit can be used with an existing thermostat on a freezer or refrigerator. Setting the thermostat on the existing fridge to its lowest setting will put the least amount of strain on the compressor of your fridge/Freezer.
Q: The probe diameter is given as ¼”, and the probe-line diameter appears to be nearly that same. How do you suggest running the line from inside a Danby kegerator to the outside world?
The Danby has a hole in the back for passage of 9/16” OD gas tubing. I doubt that the ¼” probe line can be crowded through that hole with the gas tube. The alternative of closing the door on the probe line and deforming the door gasket also sounds dicey. And, I don’t know where to safely drill another hole in the Danby (I hate to do that to my new kegerator anyway).
A: I would drill the hole through the fridge floor. This could be plugged from the inside if ever needed and would not harm the fridge in any way.
Q: can I connect two freezers to it using a wall plug for two power sources?
A: It only has 1 thermostat control and is designed for 1 plug.
Q: does the unit come pre-wired?
A: No other wiring is needed. The Johnson Controls Digital Refrigerator Thermostat is plug and play, just plug your fridge or freezer into pig tailed box and plug the box into the wall.
Q: What is the exact model number such as a419abc-1c? I need the one that will work on 220v.
A: A419ABG-3C is the model number.
Q: Does the Johnson digital thermostat have a log? How many days back does it log? Thanks.
A: The controller does not have a log.
Q: What type of wiring is required installing this unit?
A: No other wiring is needed. The Johnson Controls Digital Refrigerator Thermostat is plug and play, just plug your fridge or freezer into pig tailed box and plug the box into the wall and make sure thermo probe is inside then set your temp. Very simple.
