Great IPA
I've never had the original, but I have made another company's clone version. Compares very well to that version. Very good, has a complex flavor due to the multiple additions of hops. Due to the large amount of malt, very well balanced.

Smooth Beer
Pretty good clone or just a really good beer. This has a big hop bill. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, its not quite there to Pliny. Still a really good beer don't get me wrong. I get to have PTE quite often maybe why I am a little harder on this recipe. I will brew again might change up the hops some.

Brew This!!!
Living in an area where buying Pliny is not an option, this is a great option. After brewing over a decade, this is the best kit I've ever tried. The taste is very close to what I remember about this beer. This recipe results in a beer with fantastic aroma and a perfect balance between hops and malt. I'm sure I'll brew this one many times.

A happy ending
I am an amateur home brewer. Since I started brewing I have made 4 or 5 batches of IPA. The last one I made was the Pliny the Elder clone kit which I purchased from aih. Since I live in the Midwest I have not had the opportunity to try the real stuff. That, of course, means I have no way to compare the real Pliny with the batch I made. Nevertheless, I can tell you I am very happy with the end product. It is probably my best to date. It looks good, tastes great and, according to my calculations, has an ABV of about 8%. My only complaint is my 5 gallon batch ended up producing about 4.4 gallons of IPA. This is probably my worst yield to date. However, I suspect that has more to do with me and my basic equipment than anything else. Regardless, the quality makes up for the loss of quantity. In the end, I highly recommend this kit for anyone who is serious about their IPA.

Tasty and complex
You're supposed to drink this fresh. Due to some kegging mishaps, I didn't manage that. I was worried based on a bitter sip or two when I kegged my brew and the following wait of a couple of months before I tapped it that this was going to be one of my less successful batches of beer. However, despite the warning signs, it came out great. It has a nice, complex flavor--hoppy but not too bitter, strong flavor, but not heavy. I don't tend to think much about how beer smells as long as it tastes nice, but this beer has a strikingly pleasant aroma that I'd call floral and a little citrusy, which is a plus. Kegging woes were my fault, and maybe nobody else needs to be warned about this, but just in case: all the dry hops in this recipe can clog up a keg completely if not carefully removed. I strained before kegging, but my regular strainer wasn't up to the task, and I ended up having to disassemble the whole keg to unclog it. Avoid this with proper filtering and a fine screen over the bottom of the out tube.

Amazing Brew
Nearly a pound of hops and yet it is amazingly smooth and balanced. No wonder this recipe keeps winning awards.

a BIG delicious DIPA
Just tapped my keg of Pliny clone and it is a VERY impressive DIPA. Fantastic aroma from the hefty dose of dry hops. 10/10 would brew again. Also - USE A YEAST STARTER.

AMAZING
Incredible flavor. Brewed this for our annual Beaver Home Brewer's event and received a lot of compliments from the guests. The 5 gallon batched lasted only a few hours. This is one of my top 3 kits.
