Sliced Bourbon Barrel Staves 2 ct.
These sliced staves do vary in size. They are anywhere from 1/2''- 1" wide, 1/8"-1/4" thick and 8-13" in length. Please keep this in mind when purchasing. Many commercial chips have allowed moisture (bourbon) to dry up. This is not the case with these sliced staves. These staves have been processed from authentic Kentucky bourbon barrels.
Consistent Results!
These staves add flavor and depth to whatever you're trying to infuse. I don't reuse the staves. Also more affordable and practical than whole barrels.

Great oak flavor in my brown ale
I have brewed this brown ale several times and decided to try it on oak. I've used chips before, but hated working with them. I had to snap/bend them to get them to fit into a mason jar for a sanitizing bourbon soak for a day or two. I added them to an empty CO2 purged 5 gallon carboy, then racked the brown ale from primary. I left it for about 4 weeks and it was perfect for what I wanted. It was noticeable and really added a great note. If I had gone 3 months and/or used 4 staves instead of 2, it may have given a big flavor punch.

Perfect
I'm using these to flavor kombucha and the results are fantastic. I was a little wary of bacteria entering my secondary fermentation through these guys, so I wiped them down with a little bourbon. No problems, amazing flavor. Will definitely be buying again.

You will need to cut them up if you are adding to a glass carboy. I also charred them on the grill before soaked them in bourbon.

Whiskey Barrel Stout
Brewed a whiskey barrel stout with 2 of these barrel staves. I soaked the staves in whiskey for a week and then added the staves and the whiskey to the secondary fermenter for 2 weeks. Added a pound of lactose during the boil for more body. Really good stout with a hint of whiskey.

Great flavor and aroma
I ordered 10 staves for 2 gallons of peri peri hot sauce I was aging, ended up only needing 4 because they had a strong bourbon/charred oak flavor. Really fantastic tasting, elevated my hot sauce to the next level.

Yes I have around 15 gallons that I plan to age in a full size whiskey barrell to turn into bourbon , how many of the oak staves would I need to purchase for this amount ? How long should I age this ? Would I need to char the staves or soak in a whiskey or do nothing ? Thanks

The staves are trimmed from a previously used charred oak barrel and will have a charred edge and some spirit soaked into the staves when they arrive. You can treat the staves with additional spirit or char them further if you'd like, but a rate of 2 per 5 gallons would be a good ration to use with them as they arrived added to the batch.

A pass through asanitizer solution would not harm the wood but soaking in a bourbon or whiskey would preserve more of that flavor profile and serve the purpose of sanitizing as well

As stated previously in a different response, These staves are cut from a number of different barrel sources in Bourbon County. There is no real way to tell exactly which barrel source will be shipped to us, or shipped back out to you. You can treat the staves with a Whiskey of your choice in addition to the residual flavor left on the staves.

Recommend sanitizing anything that goes in after the boil. No need to soak in sanitizer, but at least long enough for contact.

You should take sanitized samples periodically to test the flavor the staves are imparting. Everyone is looking for a different amount of flavor, so it is best to test with a thief and bottle/keg the beer when you have it to your liking.

These do have an aroma, but this will dissipate over time. These are meant for brewing purposes, I'm not sure that they will be adequate for your application.
