Not sure....
While I do like Orberon beer I'm not to sure on this clone, after reading all the raving reviews I bought the LME kit, I followed the instructions to the Tee and the beer still came out way too dark (old LME ?) the wort also had a weird twang taste after the boil and top off, fermentation was fine and held at 68 degrees the full time (us-05 yeast), tasted beer before priming for bottles and twang was still there but not as bad but the beer was bland and flavorless I did see where dry hopping was used during fermentation by some people and I'm sure that would have bumped up the flavor profile but the kit did not include any hops for this nor did it call for dry hopping, I've got another week or so to go before bottles will be ready and I'm really hoping the added Co2 will make this drinkable,... Again directions were followed exactly as written and color was too dark with a twangy taste and beer was flavorless I'm still thinking old LME is the cause , maybe the AG kit would be a better way to go... Sorry AIH I had high hopes for this kit but was a little disappointed.

Oberon dry hop
I harvested yeast from 3 16 oz cans of Oberon fermented 2 weeks on the cool side 62 degrees. I just transferred to the secondary 1.02 fg. Tasted very light not much flavor. I’m thinking about dry hopping to add more flavor. Any recommendations on what hop to use? Centennial?

Cloned perfect
I used yeast from a bottle of Oberon. The result was a virtual perfect match. If you like Oberon, this is it. I could not tell it apart from the real Oberon in a blind taste test.

Solsun Oberon clone review
Would recommend this kit, easy brew used US05 yeast fermented at garage room temp, for 2 weeks and kegged it for a week at 20 psi. A tasty home brew after a hot day in the yard...\~/...cheers

Awesome!
Perfect! I see more similarities with a German Hefeweizen than Oberon. Third batch in secondary.

Great beer!
Brewed this one up for the wife, who loves Oberon. Well, she used to love Oberon ... now she thinks this one is better! I've got to dial in my brew schedule better, because we are sitting with an empty keg. This one will go fast ...

Try this with Wyeast 3711
This turned out great with the 3711 yeast. Only problem is that I got a lot of comments like, "oh, this one you brewed actually turned out good" or, "brew that again, maybe skip some of the others you try". I should also note that I don't really like Oberon, but I really enjoyed the results of this.

So close
Great taste and have received nothing but positive comments from friends drawing a draft. Considering adding a dram of the Orange flavoring next batch to pull out the Oberon summer feeling.

Very Good American Wheat
This was my first home brew beer. Turned out much better than I thought. I took a six pack of it to a friends spiced pumpkin brew day and everyone wanted more so it really turned out just as good as I thought it did. I will be getting the kit again next spring time.

One of the best I've made!
This is without a doubt one of the best beers I've made. I brewed it the first time in August and after the first sip I knew I would be brewing it again. It had great flavor, head retention, and maltiness. AIH kits are awesome. I have this sitting in my primary right now and bottled the AIH steam beer last weekend.

Good Beer
My brew turned out very close to it's Oberon name sake. It's a great-tasting beer that won't last long before the keg runs dry! Biggest difference with my brew is that it turned out much clearer than Oberon, but that's fine with me.

Good Clone
I just bottled the Solsun yesterday. It tasted quite good pre-conditioned, and it is definitely a good Oberon clone back when it was a true Saison. Cheers!

Q:
Brewing Solsun Oberon Clone today and in the process I have come to the conclusion that you instructions are inadiquit. I was expection to brew 5 gallons, and based on the instructions I'm far short. Do I just add additional water????
Asked by:
Gerald Bac
- 7/4/2020
A:
the recipe keeps in mind most brewers are using a smaller kettle on a stove top, and does a partial wort boil, and then tops up the kit to 5 gallons with water in the fermenter to get the full 5 gallon recipe

Q:
What yeast would you recommend to mimic the actual Oberon flavor?
Asked by:
James Sowards

A:
Wko320 or wyeast 1010 would be the best bet to get as once to the commercial version as possible

Q:
I haven't ordered from you guys before, so I'm a little confused. Do I need to select a yeast, or will you include one by default if no yeast is selected?
Asked by:
Jack Bond
- 5/9/2018
A:
Yeast is not included in the kit cost and would need to be selected from the drop down menu. Any of the offerings will make the batch true to style, for either the wheat, for the newer Oberon recipe, or, the Saison for the original version of oberon that was produced years back.

Q:
How does the recipe change if I want to do a full boil?
Asked by:
Andrew Jackson

A:
You should get better hop utilization with a full boil. So ever so slightly more bitter.

It is based on preference. White labs 320 American wheat, Wyeast 1010 American wheat are the go to selections.

Q:
You state that it would come with salafe US-05. I have found this to be a great pale ale yeast, so I'm surprised to see it here when the recipe calls for either wheat or saison yeasts. How would the overall flavor be affected by this style change? Would the Belle Saison Danstar or another dry yeast be closer?
Asked by:
Bryan Debbink
- 6/19/2015
A:
Oberon has been an American Wheat beer now for many yeast, the estery yeast profile left when the popularity of the beer increased. The Wyeast 1010 or White Labs 320 would be the closest match to the current state of Oberon, those are both American Wheat yeasts. Safale US-05 would be the closest option for a clean fermenting ale yeast such as these. If you want to make it as a more traditional Oberon of old, then a Saison yeast would be more up your alley.

Asked by:

Safale US-05 would be provided with this kit. If you would prefer a wheat yeast such as WB-06, you can request that particular yeast strain in the comments section at checkout.

Q:
Hello, The order page only gives a Wyeast or White Labs option for liquid yeast, but does not specify which. If I want a specific strain, can I skip that option and just order the yeast I want?
Asked by:
Joe Lebano
- 4/4/2015
A:
Yes you can. Just select the "yeast not needed" option. Then add the yeast you chose a la carte.

I purchased the Solsun clone but will not have time to brew it for a couple of weeks. Do I need to, or will it hurt to put the liquid wheat extract in the refrigerator? Thanks much!

There is no need to refrigerate your extract. It will be just fine sitting in a cool, dark closet or cupboard for a couple weeks.
