Q: Just curious if/ when you might be getting 15 gallon used bourbon barrels back again?
A: Availbility on the 15's is a bit spotty, btu any time we have access to a good lot of barrels at a resonable price we do try to get what we can and list while supplies last. we dont have a current ETA for return at this time
Q: Could these be used as furniture accents, hopefully can be cleaned up and lacquered if needed?
There are quite a few companies producing furniture in this style using spent whiskey barrels. The oak on the outside is not treated so it could be sanded and varnished if needed
Q: How do you clean and store between batches?
A: You can rinse the barrel with hot or boiling water, and follow this with a rinse of Potassium metabisulfite solution. This same solutions can be filled and stored in the barrel to keep the oak soaked and the staves expanded. The sulfite inhibits mold and wild yeast growth.
Q: Can you ship these to Canada?
A: We do ship to Canada, add your address to the shipping calculator to get a shipping estimate. Any additional charges such as duty are not included.
Q: When were these barrels emptied? Will they need rehydrating?
A: These barrels are emptied and they will need to be re hydrated to prevent swelling. Thanks!
Q: How large is the bung hole? What size stopper would you recommend plugging the bung hole with?
A: The bung hole is 1 5/8". The barrel is complete with a wooden bung, however a #9 1/2 bung will also fit.
Q: Can this Oak Barrel be used to age and flavor Distilled Spirits? How long would it take to get the full flavor from these barrels with a Sugar Mash Distilled Spirit?
A: Difficult to give an exact time frame. Depends on the char of the barrel and the amount of whiskey in the wood. Would recommend at least 4-6 months.
Q: Would this be too large for a 10 gallon batch?
A: No. Because it is used as a secondary vessel, make sure that it is sealed properly.
Q: How are the barrels prepared for shipment? I can see in the picture that there is a hard bung in that one, are they rinsed or wrapped soon after being emptied? I live in the southwest and the dry atmosphere would dehydrate the staves and damage the barrel during shipping unless bunged and wrapped well. Thank you for your time!
A: The barrels usually have a bung in the bunghole to prevent the barrel from drying out. The barrels are not wrapped in plastic prior to shipment, just boxed up.
Q: do you still used 15 gal barrels available?
A: Once out of stock the item will appear as not currently for sale.
Q: will the 15 gallon whiskey barrels be available again this spring any time?
A: They are currently available, check back spring time to see if we have some in stock!
Q: What are the dimensions on this barrel? Looking mostly heigh top to bottom and diameter.
A: It is roughly 23.5" in height and 15" in diameter.
Q: Can you tell me the dimensions and weight? Thanks
A: The barrels are about 24" tall and the diameter is about 17". The weight is about 23lbs.
