Q: I'm going to order this kit with the 810 lager yeast. I understand I will have to do a starter. Will one yeast packet be enough for this kit?
A: If building a yeast starter prior to brew day 1 packet would work fine
Q: How close is the flavor brewing this as an ale, and does it come with instructions?
A: the ale strains used will keep the yeast profile clean and neutral and is a good option if the brewer doesn't have the ability to make a true lager. A full set of instructions and ingredient list do ship with the order when it heads out
Q: I recently ordered a Yuengling extract kit and a Octoberfest extract kit. I unpacked the kits and have all of my hops for the Octoberfest but I have an extra 4 HBU and do not have the cluster hops needed for the Yuengling.
Am I supposed to use the 4 HBU hops in place of the cluster hops?
A: The $HBU pack is now being used in place of the Cluster hops so this can be used as a direct sub in that recipe
Q: There are 3 lager yeast listed, which of the lager yeasts would be recommended to make it closest to Yuengling?
A: the lager options would be them ost true to the style, and the three options available are all very similar in terms of profile for the end product. I like touse either 810 or 2124 myself
Q: is the lme supplied in 2x 3 lb cans?
A: this varies a bit based on the availabilty of our containers, it will likely be in 1-6lb container at this time
Q: How long is the process from brew day to pour date?
Q: If using Saflager S-23 dry Yeast, is 1 pack enough or do I need to make a starter?
A: a starter is always reccomended and would be a great idea for this batch. The S-23 along would work well but the starter limits risk of sluggish and stalled fermenter
Q: What is the batch size? I have a 3 gallon carboy
A: The recipe produces a 5 gallon batch
Q: When I made this it came out very dark. If I steep the grains for less time (20mins)would that lighten the color? Would that affect the final out come taste wise.
A: Hi there, I wouldn't recommend steeping the grains for less time then it states in the instructions. It will make your brew lighter in color but will also affect the flavor negatively. Thanks
Q: does the kit come with yeast? or do I purchase it separately? it's not on the options to add to the order...
A: Yeast is not included. The recipe recommends a white labs California ale, wyeast American ale or a safale-05 dry yeast.
Q: Which yeast would be best?
A: You can use either white labs wlp001, wyeast 1056 or safale 05(dry). Any of these yeasts would work well.
Q: Can I get detailed lagering instructionst?
No Answers have been submitted yet.
Q: For the yuengling clone, partial extract kit. You are giving options for an ale and or a lager yeast, why and which is prefered since yuengling is a lager???
A: If you can ferment around 55F the lager yeast will work best. If you can only ferment around 68F the ale yeast will be your best option.
Q: What yeast are most people using?
A: As an ale, Wyeast 1056 American Ale Yeast would be my preference. As a lager, I would recommend White Labs 840 American Lager.
Q: Is this kit better with an ale yeast or lager yeast?
A: This beer is traditionally a lager, so it is best fermented in that fashion. You will need more extensive equipment and expertise to properly lager.
