Great beer
I decided to brew this because I love Yuengling beer but live in Texas. Easy to follow recipe, I'm still what you consider a newbie. It took two weeks to ferment 1 week to force carbonate. I brought some to my coworkers and they can't get enough of it. I thought it was a little more flavorful than the original. Overall I feel that this is the best home brew I have ever made. Will definitely order again.

Smooth easy drinking
Great everyday beer. Much more flavor than a light lager commercial beer. Easy to make, may try with ale yeast. Did 2 batches , all mash and partial , both lager, yum.

Brings a tear to my eye
I grew up in the Northeast and figured Yuengling was as available as Bud light around the world. How wrong I was... I moved to Kansas City to discover that Yuengling is an East Coast regional brew. The moment I started bottling my first batch and smelled that sweet aroma, I was flooded with memories of good times spent with the guys. The first bottle I popped open was... meh. Give it at least three weeks in the bottle to quell that green bite and share it with a friend. You wont' be able to tell it was a clone. This will be one of my homebrew staples from now on being that its a great price and the mellow flavor and relatively low alcohol makes this a great "every day" beer.

A really good recipe
First off, allow to me to state that I did not ferment this kit as a lager -- I used Wyeast 1056 and fermented at ale temperature. (I am relatively new to brewing and do not have the necessary setup to tackle lagering just yet.) But I am happy to report that this kit still produced an absolutely outstanding beer. The taste was extremely reminiscent of Yuengling, but it had a somewhat fuller, more robust mouthfeel. Also, there was a bit more of a pronounced hop finish to the aftertaste which I really enjoyed. And the aroma was fantastic. I already have plans to brew another batch.

Yuengling rules
This beer kit has made me sure of two things; Lagering is worth the time, trouble, and expense and five gallons is definitely not a big enough batch of beer! I made this Thanksgiving week following the instructions closely and using White Labs 830 lager yeast. I made a 1 liter starter 48 hours before brewing. I had just purchased a “scratch-and-dent” freezer at Home Depot and a thermostat control for it locally. This was my first lager attempt and I took the time and effort to do it right, closely following the lagering instructions here on the AIH site. It’s now March and I’ve just tapped it. OMG it’s awesome! I’ve since graduated to all-grain brewing and really enjoy my ale’s, but nothing compares to the smooth, clean taste of this Yuengling kit. It’s not exact, but I love it as much if not more than the original and I will surely be making this one again. If you’ve been waiting to get into lagering, just do it. You won’t be sorry. Happy brewing!

Q:
My husband loved yuengling. I was think of getting the brew kit. What do I actually need. Lots of options.
Asked by:
Kristin Rook
- 11/17/2020
A:
The kit includes the needed hops, steeping grains and a bag, and the malt extract. yeast would be the main Brew-day requirement he would need to produce the batch when it arrives. Any of the given options in the yeast drop down menu will work. The other items are all optional add ons

I’m new to home brewing and do not have 5 gallon equipment. Can this be done as a 3 gallon batch? Thanks
Asked by:
Bob
- 8/24/2020
A:
the recipe is a bit tough to split to 3 gallons, you can use the recipe sheet offered in the description to scale the ingredients down, and order them a la cart as the best recommendation for a 3 gallon batch

Q:
The Yuengling clone directions included say to pitch yeast dry at 70F. The Q&A page online said it should be brewed as a traditional lager and use a yeast stater. When making the stater, do you used the LME that came with the kit or do I need to purchase additional ? Do you recommend racking into secondary fermenter then taking the temperature from 65F to 35F in 5 deg increments each day?
Asked by:
Don
- 6/13/2020
A:
The kit can be brewed with lager or ale yeast for a good finished result, but commercially would be made using lager yeast. A starter is always a great idea when working with lagers to limit risk of a stuck fermentation. The step -down method can be used to slowly lower the batch to lagerign temps for a few weeks.

Q:
How close is the flavor brewing this as an ale, and does it come with instructions?
Asked by:
Scott
- 1/25/2019
A:
the ale strains used will keep the yeast profile clean and neutral and is a good option if the brewer doesn't have the ability to make a true lager. A full set of instructions and ingredient list do ship with the order when it heads out

Q:
I recently ordered a Yuengling extract kit and a Octoberfest extract kit. I unpacked the kits and have all of my hops for the Octoberfest but I have an extra 4 HBU and do not have the cluster hops needed for the Yuengling. Am I supposed to use the 4 HBU hops in place of the cluster hops?
Asked by:
Bruce Tappe
- 1/22/2019
A:
The $HBU pack is now being used in place of the Cluster hops so this can be used as a direct sub in that recipe

Hi there, I wouldn't recommend steeping the grains for less time then it states in the instructions. It will make your brew lighter in color but will also affect the flavor negatively. Thanks

If you can ferment around 55F the lager yeast will work best. If you can only ferment around 68F the ale yeast will be your best option.

This beer is traditionally a lager, so it is best fermented in that fashion. You will need more extensive equipment and expertise to properly lager.
